    Your Mission

If you think dessert is the best part of a meal, perhaps you’d like a career as a pastry chef. A pastry chef is also a perfect job for anyone who likes the idea of finishing work every day by noon. A pastry chef gets to experience the satisfaction of turning a pile of raw ingredients into warm, amazing treats before most people even start their day. It’s a rewarding, and certainly, a sweet job.

As a pastry chef at Sweets Bakery, you try lots of different recipes. When you find a recipe that you like, you rewrite the recipe to make larger batches. For example, a cupcake recipe is usually written to make 12 to 24 cupcakes. At the bakery, you make 50 to 75 cupcakes at a time. This requires knowing how to convert, say, a large number of cups to quarts or gallons or many teaspoons to fractional cup quantities.

Sweets Bakery has been hired to provide cupcakes for a community celebration. The clients want you to deliver 1,500 cupcakes to the event. They want 500 chocolate cupcakes and 500 lemon cupcakes topped with your famous buttercream frosting. They also want 500 salted caramel cupcakes with caramel frosting. To prepare for the event, you must figure and order the ingredients and find boxes to carry the cupcakes to the big event. It’s time to get started; 1500 cupcakes is a big order.
